The Art of Wallpaper | A Perfect Match (Wilton Manors)

Description

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Since the time paper was invented by the Chinese court official, Tsai Lun in 105 B.C.E., it became an immediate medium for people to hand-paint and display on walls. Early wallpapers depicted important scenes of themes such as genealogy or the gods as well as to bring natural paradise images to indoor life. The intersection between wallpaper and art continued throughout the centuries to current day. New technologies permit innovative product lines and opportunities for residential, commercial and institutional applications that enhance the quality of life because of the artist influences and elements. This lecture will focus on the history of wallpaper and its intersection with ‘art’. Today art remains a vital component of wall covering installation in its uses from inspiration of beautiful wall covering lines to its uses by installers to restore and create near perfect match lines. Practical tips will be provided to educate designers on proper measurement for quantities, match patterns and how to use art to enhance the final wallcovering designs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the history of wallpapers and how it was influenced throughout time by art.
  2. Understand how to select wallcoverings to maximize efficiency and how to measure quantities.
  3. Discuss strategies to integrate custom art for application in wallcovering designs and use artist techniques to restore wallcoverings and installation flaws.
