The Aging Eye: The Importance of Proper Lighting and Color for the Aging Market

Description

Industry Seminar!

People see colors in many different ways. So how do we design for older adults that see different from us? Cells in the retina that are responsible for normal color vision decline in sensitivity as we age, causing colors to become less bright and the contrast between different colors to be less noticeable. Older adult may need up to 70% more light than a 20 year old. Proper lighting combined with higher contrast surfaces will help with identification, way finding and provide signals for surface changes; room changes; improve safety and aid our ability to walk more confidently. Women want to feel secure and safe in their home. The Smart Home will address these concerns through the use of technology. This informative one hour IDCEC approved seminar will identify key colour and lighting elements that will provide you with design options to help your aging clients navigate through their home safely.
